Songwriting in Vietnam - FAQ

When does the retreat start and finish?
The first session is at 4 pm on 15 March 2027.  The retreat finishes on the morning of 22 March.

Do I have to share a bedroom?
No. To support your creative process, you will have your own air-conditioned bedroom.

Can you tell me a bit more about our accommodation?
The retreat is based in the charmingly rustic An Villa Resort. Ideally located between town and beach, this small, eco-friendly resort lies a 10-minute drive from the ancient town of Hoi An, while the beach lies a five-minute drive away.

Do I need to be an experienced songwriter?
Not at all.
Jane's classes are suitable for all levels of experience including none.

How do I know if this retreat is for me?
If you want to write more and better songs, get inspired, or perhaps even write your first song, this retreat will give you the space, time and support to do exactly that.

How is the retreat structured?

Every day, you will attend a songwriting workshop with Jane. There will also be a daily group singing and performance class with master voice coach and choir leader Richard Lawton, and a daily yoga class with Jan Harvey.

Can you tell me more about the teachers?

Jane Cornes
Jane is an award-winning songwriter and author with a wealth of experience in supporting students to write more and better lyrics. She performs her original songs with husband Neil Steward in the duo Jane and The Rain.

Jan Harvey
Jan is a qualified yoga teacher with a wealth of experience in offering yoga for all levels. Jan runs yoga classes in her home town of Townsville, and her gentle, humorous approach  is a delight. Jan's daily class will set you up for a day of creativity and fun.

Richard Lawton

Throughout his 30 year career, Richard has been an educator, corporate trainer, theatre director and community choir leader.
Richard’s provocative, irreverent and non-judgemental style has helped thousands of people go beyond what they thought was possible.

What's the weather like in Hoi an in March?
It's the beginning of Vietnam's dry season, so there is generally very little rain. Daytime temperatures are usually in the mid to high 20s.

Can my non-participating partner or family member come with me to the retreat?
Sorry, no. Booking a place at this workshop is about finally making time for your writing. It has been Jane's experience that trying to double-dip and turn this into a holiday with your non-participating family member hampers this objective. If the guilt fairy is knocking at your door, consider having your loved one(s) join you after the retreat.

$3,200, which includes two daily workshops, accommodation, breakfasts, other meals as listed and your own air-conditioned bedroom.

How do I book?
Please email Jane for details of how to pay your deposit.
