When does the retreat start and finish?

The opening session is at 4pm on 21 October 2026. The retreat will finish at midday after the morning workshop on 26 October 2026.

​Can you tell me a bit more about the venue?

You will be staying at the delightful Adamsons Riverside, a heritage guesthouse that balances modern comforts with rustic charm within a few minutes' walk of the town's many cafes and restaurants. 



Do I need to be an experienced writer?

Not at all. Whether you're an experienced writer or someone who's brand new to the craft, Jane and Alice will show you new ways to create evocative, rich and authentic words.

Do I have to share a bedroom?

No. There are various options available if you'd like more privacy - see booking info.

How is the retreat structured?

Your mornings will be spent exploring new ways to access rich, evocative words with Jane and Alice.

On two days there will be masterclasses after lunch with award-winning flash fiction author Gillian O'Shaughnessy and widely-published novelist John Harman..

Those who would like to explore moulding their new words into songs can also join Jane and Alice every afternoon for a songwriting session.

What about meals?

Breakfasts and dinners are included in the retreat fee, as well as a long table lunch at Cullen Wines.

Numerous cafes and the award winning Margs Bakery are within a few minutes' walk, and you will have access to a fridge, toaster, microwave and kettle.

I have dietary needs...

GF and vegetarian options are available at all meals.

If you have other dietaries, check with Jane.

How much is the retreat?

$2150, which includes all workshops, masterclasses with Gill and John, twin share accommodation, breakfasts, dinners and the long table lunch.

Other room types (if available):

Private room with private ensuite bathroom: $500 supplement payable.

Private room with shared bathroom: $300 supplement payable.

I live locally. Can I come to the retreat without paying for accommodation and meals?

Sure thing. A limited number of non-residential places are available to locals. The cost of $650 includes access to all workshops and masterclasses during the retreat.
