10-17 OCT 2027

FAQ

How do I know if this retreat is suitable for me?

This retreat is for anyone, regardless of their experience as a writer, who wants to write more and better words and who craves time-out and peace to explore what they can achieve.

Where (the hell) is Sumbawa?

Sumbawa is a small, largely undeveloped island an hour's flight from Bali.

Tell me about Ocean Mantra Village

This delightful eco-resort is located on the east coast of Sumbawa, a two and a half hour drive from Bima airport.

Set across 3.5 hectares of secluded coastline, the resort has no neighbors, traffic or city noise for kilometres — just stillness, open nature and two swimmable beaches with direct access.

Ocean Mantra does not permit alcohol.

What is the accommodation like?

The cliffside glamping tents have their own private bathrooms and are fan-cooled. Read about them here.

If you would prefer air-conditioning, you can upgrade to a cliffside bungalow for an extra A$500. Read about the bungalows here.

Is the venue suitable for those with physical limitations?

No. Ocean Mantra is built across a hillside, with accommodation, the restaurant, yoga shala, pool and beaches located at different elevations.

Apart from writing, what will I do?

The resort offers complimentary yoga, meditation and a signature Underwater Meditation practice. There are also two swimmable beaches, an accessible live coral reef system and a clifftop swimming pool.

What about meals?

Fresh vegetarian dishes are served buffet-style three times a day, with local seafood added at dinner, and fruit and drinks available throughout — chef-made, nourishing and plentiful.

What does a typical day at the retreat look like?

Jane and Alice will offer daily morning writing workshops, followed by free afternoons for beach visits, snorkelling, reflection, relaxation and writing. The resort also offers complimentary daily yoga and sound meditation.
